OUR STORY

Gateway Karis Church is a multicultural family full of rich history and deep roots in the Word of God. Our Church was first planted in Chino, California sometime before 1911. In 1937, we became Chino Brethren in Christ, making us one of the oldest churches in the city of Chino. While our name and location has changed over the years, our love for Jesus Christ and our heart to teach and obey His word remains the same. For the past century, God has been using our church to minister to both our local and global community. We are so excited to witness and partner in God's continued work!

HISTORY

1911

PLANTED

Our Church was first planted in Chino sometime before 1911 and was then called East Side Sunday School. In 1937 we became Chino Brethren in Christ and as such we are one of the oldest churches in Chino. We bought land on San Antonio and Edison and built our first sanctuary there.

1963

SCHAEFER

In 1963, members of our church, the Schaefer family after whom Schaefer Avenue is named, gave us 7.25 acres of land on Oaks and Schaefer Avenue so that we could expand. The Schaefer family were early pioneers here in Chino and ran a large farm for decades.

OUR MISSION. GOD'S VISION

GO THEREFORE...

MAKE DISCIPLES

Here at Gateway Karis, we are very serious and committed to the Great Commission that Jesus gave in Matthew 28. With a posture of obedience, we are adamant about making disciples in our Jerusalem, our Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

God has cast vision for the next generation. Here at Gateway Karis, we partner with young people to help them find how they resonate with the Gospel. We desire to raise up leaders for the next generation. A new wave is coming. The next generation is here.

WHO WE ARE

The current thinking is that we are evolutionary anomalies who have somehow evolved to the top of the food chain.  Issues of good and evil are societal constructs, but we are individually arbiters of what is good and what is evil.  The problem, of course, is that we will all die, and then there is nothing.  We are cosmic accidents who slip through life into a meaningless end.  This is bleak, and faced with this bleakness, we are left searching for meaning.

The Church and its message, we are taught, is irrelevant.

This Church’s message is profoundly relevant; it brings our Creator’s plan.  What we know is that there is a God and this God created the universe.  God put all things in order and created us to be in charge of this world.  But we chose our own way.  We chose to be the arbiters of good and evil and by doing that -disorder and death entered this creation.

The good news is that God anticipated all of this and offers us a way to restoration and meaning. He sent His Son to make the way for us back to Him.

We are not cosmic accidents, but divinely created with an eternal purpose.  God’s message of life to this society’s unstated teaching of doom is that there is restoration, hope, and meaning.

“For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.  I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were written all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.”  ~Psalm 139:13-16
